Blog brings Youth Conference to a wider audience
Young people from schools across the District have been invited to attend the Blaby District youth Conference on October 16th which has been organised in partnership by Blaby District Council & Leicestershire Youth Service.
The all day event is being held at the District Council’s offices in Narborough as part of Local Democracy week.
The first activity on the day’s programme is “political speed dating” when the students will have 3 minute sessions to help them to get to know the Councillors who will also be taking part in the conference.
Later in the day delegates will discuss the proposed formation of a Blaby District Youth Council and take part in a debate with Councillors. During the debate they will talk about social issues that they feel affect them and their communities. They will have the opportunity to question Councillors and make suggestions on the improvements they would like to see the Council consider.
Representatives from The Jitty, a website run for and by teenagers from across the county, will be on hand throughout the day to cover the event live via the website in the form of a blog. If you can't attend the conference, you can still keep in touch with events throughout the day by visiting www.thejitty.com/byc/conference.html
Councillor Karl Coles, Blaby District Council’s Young Persons’ Champion said “The Local Democracy Week campaign is about making young people aware of their local council and getting them more involved in politics - in a fun way. I am sure the “speed dating” at the start of the conference will set the tone for the day by showing that councillors are only human and happy to talk. I know that given the opportunity our young people have plenty to say about the things that matter to them “
